HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company News : Journalist’s Claim Denial Goes Viral, Sparking Social Media Outrage

A former journalist named Preeti Chobey accused HDFC ERGO, a major insurance company, of denying her health insurance claim. Chobey said she was hospitalized after losing consciousness but the company refused to cover her bill, claiming her condition was caused by stress.

On social media (Twitter), Preeti Chobey shared a frustrating experience. Chobey stated she was admitted to Medanta Hospital due to sudden unconsciousness, a facility covered by her HDFC ERGO insurance plan. She even needed ICU heart care. However, shockingly, HDFC denied her claim, citing “tension” as the cause.

“I relied on my insurance to be there for me, but now I’m stuck dealing with this on my own.”

HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company News :  Chobey’s tweet alleging HDFC ERGO’s denial gained significant traction online, garnering over 1.5 million views on social media and sparking criticism towards the company.

In response to the public outcry, the insurance company reached out to Chobey directly on the platform, expressing regret for the inconvenience and requesting her policy details for a re-evaluation of her claim.

Chobey’s story resonated with many on social media. The comments section was flooded with people sharing similar experiences of claim denials with HDFC ERGO. One user, an HDFC customer with a high coverage of 1 crore rupees, claimed they faced repeated claim rejections and eventually switched providers. They emphasized their satisfaction with the new company, stating they haven’t had to pay out of pocket since the switch, implying HDFC ERGO is untrustworthy.

Another user chimed in, expressing outrage that insurance premiums are rising while companies like HDFC ERGO deny valid claims. They condemned the practice as deceptive!

Joining the online criticism, another user directly addressed viewers in India. They highlighted Preeti Chobey’s ordeal as a cautionary tale, urging people to be very selective when choosing a health insurance provider. The comment strongly advised against HDFC ERGO, implying it should be the least preferred option.

HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company News :

HDFC ERGO boasts over 1.5 crore happy customers in 18 years on their website. They advertise comprehensive coverage for hospitalization expenses, including room charges, tests, ICU stays, surgeries, doctor consultations, and more, for illnesses and injuries.

Interestingly, the website also contradicts the alleged claim denial by stating their commitment to mental health. They claim to cover hospitalization costs for treating mental illnesses, suggesting they value mental health as much as physical healthcare.
