Wipro Appoints Amit Kumar as Global Head of Consulting Amid Growth Strategy

Wipro Appoints Amit Kumar as Managing Partner and Global Head of Wipro Consulting, effective immediately. Kumar will report directly to CEO and MD Srini Pallia and join the company’s Executive Board.

This appointment comes as Wipro’s consulting business, led by its subsidiary Capco, has shown steady growth. Capco reported an 11% year-on-year revenue increase, with bookings up by 9%, according to CFO Aparna Iyer during the company’s Q3 earnings call on January 17, 2025.

Wipro is also expanding through acquisitions, having purchased Massachusetts-based IT consulting firm Applied Value Technologies (AVT) for $40 million in December 2024 to strengthen its application services.

Before joining Wipro, Kumar worked at Accenture Consulting for 17 years, where he held leadership roles in Americas Market and Industry X Consulting. In his new role, he will drive consulting-led, AI-powered growth, assisting clients in business and technology transformations.

Pallia praised Kumar’s track record of driving business growth and innovation, stating that his expertise will help advance Wipro’s consulting business and create greater value for clients.

With 24 years of consulting experience across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, Kumar has worked in industries such as High-Tech, Energy, Chemicals, Retail, Automotive, and Consumer Goods. His specialties include Business Transformation, Operational Excellence, Supply Chain Management, and Manufacturing Digitization. Kumar holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and a master’s from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune. He will be based in the greater New York area.

Wipro has been focusing on leadership development through its Wipro Leadership Institute, aiming to train over 600 leaders by FY25. The company remains open to hiring external talent to strengthen its leadership team.

Recent leadership changes at Wipro include Omkar Nisal’s appointment as CEO of Europe in November 2024, following several high-profile departures, including former CTO Subha Tatavarti, COO Amit Choudhary, and APMEA president Anis Chenchah. However, CEO Srini Pallia has indicated that the leadership transitions have now stabilized.

The company is now focused on stabilizing leadership and strengthening its internal talent pipeline to drive growth and transformation.
