Vivo is set to launch its latest V-series smartphone, the Vivo V50, in India on February 17, 2025. With just a few days until its official release, the company has already unveiled several key specifications. However, a closer look at the Vivo V50’s features reveals many similarities with its predecessor, the Vivo V40, raising questions about whether the upgrade is significant. Here’s a detailed comparison of both models to highlight the key differences.

Design and Display

The Vivo V50 and Vivo V40 share a similar design, featuring a vertically aligned, pill-shaped camera module. In both devices, the upper half houses two camera sensors, while the lower half includes the Aura Light. However, the Vivo V50 introduces a larger LED Aura Light, occupying nearly the entire lower portion of the camera island.

Additionally, the V50 features a quad-curved display for a more immersive viewing experience, protected by Diamond Shield Glass. While specific display details remain undisclosed, both models are expected to feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with HDR10+ support.

Camera

Both devices come equipped with a dual-camera setup featuring a 50MP wide-angle primary sensor with OIS and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, both utilizing ZEISS optics. However, the Vivo V50 introduces ZEISS Multifocal Portrait features for improved photography.

On the front, both models house a 50MP selfie camera.

Performance and Battery

The Vivo V40 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, and the Vivo V50 is expected to retain the same chipset. Both models offer 8GB RAM with up to 256GB of internal storage. However, the V40 comes with UFS 2.2 storage, while the V50 is rumored to upgrade to UFS 3.1, potentially improving data transfer speeds.

A notable difference lies in the operating system. The Vivo V50 will ship with Android 15 out of the box, featuring AI-powered tools like AI Transcript Assist, Live Call Translation, Circle to Search, and Google Gemini. In contrast, the Vivo V40 launched with Android 14, though it is upgradeable to the latest version.

When it comes to battery capacity, the Vivo V50 outperforms its predecessor. While the V40 is equipped with a 5500mAh battery with 80W FlashCharge, the V50 boasts a 6000mAh battery with 90W FlashCharge support, promising longer battery life and faster charging.
