Suicide bombing kills 24 in Quetta

Quetta Train Station Blast Kills 21 A suicide bombing at a train station in Quetta, southwestern Pakistan, on Friday killed at least 24 people and injured another 53, according to local officials. The attack, which occurred around 9 a.m. on the city’s main railway platform, was confirmed as a suicide blast by Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group active in the region, claimed responsibility for the attack. Senior Police Superintendent Muhammad Baloch reported that the explosion happened when many passengers were gathered on the platform. Security forces have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is ongoing.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, has ordered an inquiry, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident in a statement.

Balochistan, which has seen a decades-long insurgency, has experienced a surge in violence in recent years, partly fueled by the strategic leasing of the Gwadar port to China under the Belt and Road Initiative. The BLA has carried out some of Pakistan’s deadliest attacks this year, including an October assault on a convoy in Karachi that left two Chinese nationals dead.
