NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is preparing for an exciting event on September 13, 2024, when two asteroids, 2024 RZ10 and 2024 RZ10, will make close approaches to Earth. Despite the dramatic nature of this cosmic event, there’s no reason to worry. Both asteroids will pass by safely, providing scientists with an excellent opportunity for study.

The first asteroid, 2024 RZ10, is about 110 feet in diameter—roughly the size of a small airplane. Although it is considered potentially hazardous because of its size and speed, it poses no threat to our planet. It will fly by at a safe distance of 3,330,000 kilometers, which is far beyond the Moon’s orbit.

The second asteroid, also designated 2024 RZ10, is smaller, measuring about 44 feet across—similar in size to a small airplane. It will come closer to Earth than its larger counterpart, passing within 1,150,000 kilometers. Even with this closer approach, there is no danger to our planet.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) maintains a vigilant watch over potentially hazardous asteroids. This careful monitoring is crucial for our safety and provides valuable chances for scientific study. By examining these ancient space rocks, scientists can gain insights into the early solar system.

The upcoming approach of 2024 RZ10 and 2024 RZ10 may pique interest, but there’s no cause for worry. Both asteroids will pass by safely, providing an opportunity to advance our knowledge of near-Earth objects and their trajectories.
