Mumbai search continues: missing persons check

According to report some stranded individuals have been rescued, the search and rescue operation is still ongoing. The team is working to clear debris and is coordinating with locals and the police to check for any reports of missing persons. The operation will continue until the entire area has been inspected. MHADA engineers have also been notified to come to the site.

A MHADA official stated that residents of the collapsed building had been provided with alternative accommodation and issued notices six months ago, but they resisted relocating. The building, classified under Category A (constructed before September 1940), was not declared dangerous by the MBRRB because propping measures had been put in place.

Mumbai Eviction Warning: Monsoon Danger

It’s important to note that annually, before the monsoon season, the MBRRB issues a list of buildings deemed dangerous and unfit for human habitation, issuing eviction notices to residents, including commercial occupants, to vacate these properties to avoid incidents. The MBRRB provides alternative accommodations in transit camps. This year, the MBRRB identified 20 buildings as highly dangerous and unfit for habitation.
