– Apple News+ Goes Offline & Adds Game
In the iOS 17.5 update, Apple News+ subscribers gain the option to browse the Today feed and News+ section offline. Additionally, Apple introduces a new exclusive daily word game called Quartiles, initially limited to the US and Canada.
– Cross-Device Tracking Alert
With the release of iOS 17.5, Apple expands its existing capability for iOS users to detect unknown AirTags or Find My Network accessories potentially tracking their whereabouts. Now, the update extends this feature to notify users when their device detects a Bluetooth tracking device accompanying them. Notably, Apple collaborated with Google to develop this functionality, which is also accessible on Android devices.
– EU App Store Expansion
In the recent iOS update, Apple extends its previous allowance for EU users to download apps from third-party app stores introduced in the iOS 17.4 update from March. Now, users can also download apps directly from verified app developers’ websites. However, developers seeking to enable this feature must submit a form detailing their credentials and pay a ‘Core Technology Fee’ of £0.50 after surpassing a specific threshold.
– iOS 17.5: Pride & Repair Update
With the rollout of iOS 17.5, Apple introduces its annual Pride collection of wallpapers and watch faces, extending the feature across iOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS platforms. Notably, the Pride wallpaper on iPhones and iPads will dynamically adjust as users unlock their devices. Additionally, a new “Repair State” function is introduced, enabling users to send their iPhones for servicing without the need to disable Find My and Activation Lock.
