Instagram suffered a major outage on Saturday, impacting millions globally and over 6,500 users in India. Users couldn’t access feeds, Reels, or log in, causing them to flock to Twitter (#instagramdown) to vent and confirm the issue. The cause remains unknown and there’s no official word from Instagram yet.

On Saturday, Instagram, the widely used photo and video-sharing platform owned by Meta, faced a global outage affecting users across the world, including India. Numerous users reported trouble accessing features such as Reels and feed updates.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, over 6,500 reports were logged from users in India at the peak of the disruption around 12:02 p.m. Most of the complaints (58%) were about issues with the feed, while 32% reported problems with the app itself, and 10% cited server connection issues.

 

The outage impacted major cities across India, including Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Frustrated users, unable to log in, scroll through their feeds, or load Reels, turned to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustrations and confirm the widespread issue.

“Everyone going towards Twitter to check if Instagram is down,” one user joked, underscoring the natural reaction to seek answers on other platforms during such outages. The disruption sparked a wave of humorous and exasperated posts, with users sharing their experiences.

“I thought my Instagram got hacked because there’s no way my FYP looks like this. It’s usually all brain rot #instagramdown,” another user remarked, noting the unusual content that appeared during the outage.

 

Another user echoed this sentiment, saying, “Me going to Twitter to check if it’s only my Instagram that’s down, or we all are suffering #instagramdown.” The cause of the global outage is still unclear, and Instagram has yet to release an official statement addressing the issue or providing an estimated resolution time.
