Google Messages Upgrade: 1 Button Changes EVERYTHING!

Google has started rolling out a new update to its Messages app, incorporating Gemini AI to enhance functionality and user interaction directly within chats.

This move follows Google’s recent introduction of Gemini AI on platforms like Gmail. The integration aims to improve user experience by providing quick access to AI capabilities without leaving the Messages app. Users will notice a new floating action button above the “Start chat” button, making it easier to access the AI service directly within the app.

Google has confirmed that the Gemini AI integration in its Messages app functions similarly to its standalone version on Android devices, as reported by GSM Arena.

This integration enables users to ask questions, get information, or issue commands seamlessly while staying within their ongoing conversations in Messages. Importantly, Gemini AI respects user privacy by not scanning private chats. However, interactions with the AI chatbot are not end-to-end encrypted, so users should be cautious when sharing sensitive information.

Google also offers users options to manage their chat history with Gemini, allowing them to customize storage settings ranging from default retention periods of 18 months to options as low as 3 months or up to 36 months.

Gemini AI does not track user location beyond using general details from IP addresses or home addresses to offer relevant information, addressing privacy concerns. As the update gradually rolls out, users can anticipate improved capabilities and smoother interactions within the Messages app.
