Delhi Sizzles: Rising Temperatures, Heatwave Conditions, and Poor Air Quality Grip the City

Delhi is experiencing rising temperatures, with the IMD reporting a sharp increase in maximum temperatures. The city faces heatwave-like conditions, with daytime temperatures soaring while nights remain stable. On Wednesday, the temperature ranged from 19.05°C to 37.2°C, with low humidity at 7%.

The IMD predicts clear skies until March 26, with temperatures peaking at 37°C. Strong winds (20-30 km/h) are expected from March 27-29. Despite the heat, air pollution remains a concern, with Delhi’s AQI at 235, categorized as ‘poor.’

Delhi Sizzles: Rising Temperatures, Heatwave Conditions, and Poor Air Quality Grip the City

Residents of Delhi woke up to clear skies and soaring temperatures on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a significant rise in maximum temperatures across the city and its neighboring areas. The heat is intensifying, creating conditions similar to a heatwave, with daytime temperatures steadily increasing while nighttime temperatures remain relatively stable.

Current Weather Conditions

The IMD has forecasted that temperatures in Delhi will continue to rise in the coming days, with the possibility of reaching 40°C soon. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.05°C, while the maximum temperature climbed to 37.2°C. The humidity level remained low at just 7%, and a light breeze, blowing at a speed of 7 km/h, provided little relief from the heat.

Weather Forecast for the Week

According to IMD predictions, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear until March 26. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 37°C on March 26, while March 25 and 27 will see highs of about 36°C, making them some of the hottest days this month.

Between March 27 and 29, Delhi is expected to experience strong surface winds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h. Despite the soaring daytime temperatures, nighttime temperatures are expected to remain between 17°C and 19°C, offering slight relief during the late hours.

Air Quality in Delhi Remains a Concern

Although the city is experiencing sunny and bright weather, air pollution continues to be a major issue. On Wednesday morning, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 235, which falls under the ‘poor’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). By 4 PM on March 24, the city’s 24-hour average AQI was 234.

Experts advise people, particularly those with respiratory illnesses, to take precautions such as wearing masks when stepping outdoors and minimizing exposure to polluted air. While the weather may appear pleasant in terms of visibility, the high pollution levels pose health risks, especially for children and the elderly.

Expected Weather for Thursday

Thursday is expected to bring another warm day to Delhi, with clear skies and rising temperatures. The minimum temperature is projected to be around 25.77°C, while the maximum could soar as high as 38.74°C.

With the intense heat, residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during peak afternoon hours. Staying hydrated and wearing light-colored, breathable clothing can help in coping with the extreme temperatures.

Weather Conditions Across India

While Delhi faces increasing temperatures, other parts of India are expected to experience varied weather conditions. The IMD has forecasted rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Ladakh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand between March 26 and 28. Arunachal Pradesh is also expected to receive rain on March 28 and 29.

Southern states such as Kerala and Karnataka are likely to witness showers on March 26, providing much-needed relief from the heat.

Delhi Prepares for an Intensifying Summer

As temperatures continue to rise, Delhi residents are preparing for what could be a scorching summer. The IMD is closely monitoring weather patterns and urging people to take necessary precautions to stay safe from the heat.

With the possibility of record-breaking temperatures in the coming weeks, residents are encouraged to stay cautious, follow heatwave safety measures, and stay updated with the latest weather advisories. The combination of extreme heat and air pollution makes it crucial for everyone to prioritize their health and well-being in the days ahead.
