Cool Respite in Pune: 3 Days of Relief from Scorching Heat Amid Rainy Forecast!
Pune residents are savoring a sudden reprieve from scorching heat as the city’s temperature dropped significantly over two days, sliding from 37.2°C to 32.8°C, with nighttime lows stabilizing at a comfortable 22.3°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes this cooling to evolving weather systems, including cyclonic circulations over Madhya Pradesh and a trough extending from the Arabian Sea, driving moisture and instability across Maharashtra.
Light rain is forecast for Pune’s ghat areas initially, with a yellow alert issued for city-wide showers by May 11–12. Cloudy skies are expected to persist, offering respite to locals and farmers amid pre-monsoon unpredictability. While northern Maharashtra and Vidarbha brace for moderate rain, authorities urge caution during thunderstorms and potential waterlogging. The break from relentless heat underscores the region’s dynamic climate, blending relief with reminders to stay weather-ready.

Cool Respite in Pune: 3 Days of Relief from Scorching Heat Amid Rainy Forecast!
Pune’s residents are finally breathing a sigh of relief as the city experiences a welcome break from weeks of sweltering heat. Over the past two days, temperatures have dropped significantly, with daytime highs falling from 37.2°C on Tuesday to 33.7°C on Wednesday and further to 32.8°C on Thursday. Nighttime lows stabilized at 22.3°C, aligning with seasonal averages.
Rainfall on the Horizon
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributes this cooling trend to evolving weather systems and predicts the relief will persist through May 12. Light rain is expected in Pune’s ghat areas initially, with showers likely to reach the city by May 11–12. A yellow alert has been issued, urging residents to stay updated on weather changes.
“Cloudy skies will dominate Pune for the next 3–4 days, with isolated showers anticipated later this week. While the ghat regions will see rain first, the city can expect scattered rainfall by the weekend,” explained SD Sanap, Senior Meteorologist at IMD Pune.
Statewide Weather Shift
The cooling isn’t limited to Pune. Most Maharashtra districts, including northern regions and Vidarbha, are forecast to experience light to moderate rain through May 12 due to two key systems:
- An upper-air cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh.
- A trough extending from the east-central Arabian Sea to central India.
These systems are driving moisture and instability, leading to cloud cover and temperature drops across the state.
Why This Matters
The sudden shift offers much-needed respite for Pune’s population, which had been grappling with heat-related discomfort. Farmers in surrounding areas also welcome the rain, which could aid crops amid summer dryness. However, authorities advise caution during thunderstorms and to avoid low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
Looking Ahead
While the IMD notes reduced rainfall activity after May 12, the current cool spell underscores Maharashtra’s unpredictable pre-monsoon weather patterns. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the break from the heat while remaining prepared for sudden changes.
