Putin’s Lavish Black Sea Palace
A lavish mansion located on the Black Sea coast, often associated with Russian President Vladimir Putin, has undergone renovations to include a church complete with a throne, as reported by the Russian investigative outlet Proekt.
Proekt recently released videos showcasing the opulent interior of what has been dubbed “Putin’s palace.” The mansion’s existence was initially brought to light in 2021 by Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, who detailed its features such as a wine cellar, a casino, and an ice rink. The property is surrounded by 17,000 acres of forest and is within a designated no-fly zone, effectively isolating it from the rest of Russia.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Russian government regarding the Proekt report.
Renovations Suggest Putin’s Religious, Militaristic Focus
Proekt also suggested that the renovations indicate Putin’s apparent preoccupation with themes of war and religion. The images reveal a private church within the mansion adorned with a triptych and a wooden throne.
According to Proekt, the walls of the room are adorned with crosses, and the triptych appears to depict a figure identified as “Saint Prince Vladimir,” as noted by two art historians and one icon painter.
Chandelier’s Origin Adds to Speculation
The outlet highlighted a specific detail regarding a chandelier, stating that it has been crafted using red crystals sourced from the renowned French manufacturer Baccarat, with an estimated value of $1 million. In his 2021 video, Navalny asserted that the property’s total cost amounted to $1.3 billion, alleging that it was funded through an intricate corruption scheme.
According to Navalny, this scheme involved Putin granting high-ranking positions and lucrative government contracts to his associates within partially state-owned energy corporations.
Kremlin Dismisses Navalny’s Allegations
When Navalny released his expose on Putin’s Black Sea complex in 2021, thousands of Russians took to the streets in protest. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov swiftly dismissed the report’s claims, labeling them as “pure nonsense.”
