Biden’s Campaign Sees Record $8.1 Million Surge in Fundraising Post-Trump Verdict

Following Donald Trump’s hush money conviction in New York, Joe Biden’s campaign experienced its highest single-day online fundraising, as per POLITICO’s analysis of federal campaign finance data. Additionally, Biden’s political operation saw the largest influx of new donors on the day of Trump’s verdict compared to any other day since the launch of his campaign last year.

Biden refrains, fundraising still surges

Despite Donald Trump using his conviction for fundraising purposes, Joe Biden’s campaign refrained from exploiting the trial for political gain. Prior to and even after the verdict, Biden and his campaign avoided capitalizing on Trump’s legal troubles, initially slow to ramp up attacks on the “convicted felon.”

Despite not publicizing the surge in online fundraising post-conviction, data from ActBlue, the Democratic fundraising platform, reveals a significant increase on May 30 and the following day.

During this period, Biden’s campaign raised amounts six times higher than their usual daily totals, contributing to the largest overall fundraising day on ActBlue this election cycle, benefiting both the incumbent and down-ballot Democrats.

Biden’s fundraising surges despite Trump

Despite Joe Biden’s campaign and joint fundraising committees raising $8.1 million on May 31, according to a campaign official, this amount falls short compared to the substantial funds reportedly raised by Donald Trump’s campaign following his conviction. Trump’s significant fundraising surge enabled him to surpass Biden in cash on hand.

However, Biden’s surge in financial support indicates that the conviction served as a catalyst for many grassroots donors who had been hesitant to donate earlier in the election cycle. This influx of funds represents a crucial moment of fundraising momentum for Biden’s campaign.

Mike Nellis, CEO of Authentic, a Democratic digital fundraising agency, attributed this success to leveraging significant moments, strong emotional responses, and effective digital fundraising strategies by the Biden team.
