Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO of Ola, a prominent ride-hailing app in India, voiced his criticism towards LinkedIn and Microsoft, citing their adoption of what he perceives as ‘woke’ policies. In a statement posted on a platform called X, Aggarwal declared his intention to create an indigenous tech platform and gradually transition Ola’s operations away from Microsoft’s Azure cloud service. His goal, as expressed on X, is to diminish dependence on Western tech infrastructures and cultivate a more distinctly “Indian” digital ecosystem.

 

On X, Bhavish Aggarwal expressed that while he doesn’t oppose global tech companies, he harbors apprehensions as an Indian citizen about being subject to governance by Western Big Tech monopolies, potentially leading to cultural assimilation, as evidenced by recent occurrences.

He clarified that his concerns aren’t solely about Ola or any of his ventures, acknowledging their limited influence in addressing this issue. Instead, he emphasized his personal commitment as a free-thinking Indian to challenge this imposed ideology and outlined the steps he intends to take, aligning his actions with his convictions.

 

Mr. Bhavish Aggarwal announces shift to domestic cloud and made a commitment to collaborate with Indian developers in establishing a platform that embraces the principles of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and Unified Payments Interface (UPI). He emphasized a focus on user control and data ownership within this framework, aiming to empower creators rather than large corporations.

In addition, he announced Ola’s decision to transition its entire workload from Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to Ola’s own Krutrim cloud service. To encourage developers seeking an alternative to Azure, Aggarwal offered a one-year complimentary trial of Krutrim cloud services, with the requirement of continued platform usage beyond the initial period.

This aligns with his previous criticism of non-binary pronouns, which he considered unnecessary within the Indian context. He recounted an incident where LinkedIn’s AI utilized gender-neutral pronouns for him, highlighting his disapproval of this practice.
