All eleven individuals belonged to the same family and had committed suicide together.

In a similar tragic event, the bodies of five people were recently found hanging from a noose inside a house in Raudi village, Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh. This horrifying discovery has caused widespread panic throughout the state.

Exactly six years after the horrific Burari incident, on July 1, 2024, a similar tragedy occurred in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh, about 930 km from Delhi. While the Burari incident involved 11 people, this time five individuals were found hanging in Alirajpur.

The news of the mass suicide from Raudi village on Monday morning alarmed top government and administrative officials in Bhopal. The bodies of five family members were discovered hanging from the ceiling inside their house.

Initially, it appeared to be a case of mass suicide, but drawing conclusions was challenging without a thorough investigation. Adding to the complexity, the relatives of the deceased claimed the family was murdered. This raised a crucial question: did someone kill the entire family and then stage it to look like a suicide by hanging the bodies?

Upon discovering the bodies hanging from the ceiling inside the house, villagers promptly alerted the police, initiating a thorough investigation into this shocking and enigmatic case.

Alirajpur SP Rajesh Vyas, along with other senior police officials, swiftly arrived at the scene to gather clues and uncover the truth behind the incident. Given the mysterious nature of the case and suspicions of foul play leading some to speculate it could be a mass murder, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was summoned to conduct an investigation aimed at uncovering the truth.

The forensic team was summoned to determine whether the incident was a case of suicide or murder. In the event of suicide, investigators sought to understand the underlying reasons.

Should foul play be suspected, the focus shifted to identifying the perpetrators and uncovering their motives. Alongside recovering the bodies and facilitating their examination by forensic experts, the police conducted a meticulous inspection of the crime scene, meticulously gathering evidence.

Additionally, authorities opted for a panel of doctors to conduct postmortem examinations on the deceased individuals involved in this tragic incident.

No suicide note found, investigation continues

Alongside these efforts, authorities are preparing to examine the viscera of all the deceased individuals. This step aims to determine whether foul play, potentially involving the administration of poison, preceded the hanging of their bodies. According to police sources, the family involved in the tragic incident are farmers, residing near their fields in Rakesh’s house.

The family members included Rakesh, the head of the household, his wife Lalita, daughter Lakshmi, son Prakash, and Akshay. When Rakesh’s uncle arrived at their house on Monday morning, he was shocked to discover the grim scene inside. He promptly informed villagers, who then alerted the police.

During the investigation thus far, no suicide note has been found at the scene. Family members noted that Rakesh himself was not literate, which casts doubt on the likelihood of him having written or left a note, even if the deaths were indeed suicides. The family belonged to the Bilala tribal community, known for its resilience and strong communal ties.

Suicide is extremely rare in this community, significantly diminishing the likelihood that Rakesh and his family took their own lives. According to family members and villagers, Rakesh or his family never disclosed any issues that might suggest a motive for suicide. Consequently, if this tragedy is not a case of suicide, it strongly indicates murder.

The pressing question now revolves around determining the motive behind such a heinous act. Relatives of the deceased family and villagers who suspect foul play are offering their own theories and reasoning to support the belief that this incident is indeed a case of murder.

Past attack, motive from afar

They speculate that some time ago, Rakesh’s father Jagar Singh was attacked by unidentified individuals, suggesting potential enmity with someone.

It’s plausible that those same individuals orchestrated this crime. However, no prior complaint regarding the earlier attack reached the police, and now they are investigating this angle alongside the current case.

Other members of the family reside in the village, including Rakesh’s father and brother, living separately. Rakesh had recently returned from Gujarat, where he worked as a laborer before moving back following the attack on his father.

If this incident turns out to be murder, there could be a connection to Gujarat. The region has a history of scams involving fake gold bricks, and police suspect Rakesh might have fallen victim to such a scam in Gujarat, potentially leading to a conspiracy against him back in his village. Currently, investigators are keeping all avenues open in their examination of this case.

The victims of the mass suicide in Burari included 77-year-old Narayani Devi; her eldest son, 50-year-old Bhuvanesh (also known as Bhuppi), and his 48-year-old wife Savita, along with their children Neetu, Moni, and Dhruv; 45-year-old Lalit, his 42-year-old wife Tina, and their son Shivam; 57-year-old widow Pratibha; and 33-year-old daughter Priyanka. The head of the family, Bhopal Singh, had previously passed away.

During this difficult period, Lalit’s wife, Tina, began communicating with the family through gestures, claiming she could see and converse with Lalit’s deceased father, Bhopal Singh. Her assertions were taken seriously by the household, and they gradually became immersed in superstition and belief.
