The Apple Watch Ultra played a crucial role in saving Rick Shearman’s life after he was caught in a dangerous situation at Tallow Beach in Byron Bay, Australia. Shearman, 49, was overwhelmed by powerful waves and struggled to stay afloat, eventually panicking and cramping up underwater. Fortunately, he used his Apple Watch Ultra to call for help, which helped ensure his rescue.

Watch saves surfer, Find My finds watch

An experienced swimmer and surfer, Rick Shearman initially let the current carry him beyond the breakers to find a way back to shore. However, after about 20 minutes, he realized he needed help. Using his Apple Watch Ultra, he managed to access the emergency function and call 000 while treading water. The emergency team, guided by his directions, reached him within an hour.

Shearman noted that using the watch was challenging, as he had to hold it up to his ear to hear and speak with the responder. He remarked that without the watch’s emergency feature, he might have ended up drifting into deeper waters.

In another recent news story, Apple’s Find My feature helped a man recover his Apple Watch after it was lost in the Caribbean over a year ago.
