Today, the Supreme Court heard the second petition concerning the NEET exam. During the hearing, the NTA informed the court that it would conduct a re-examination for students who received grace marks. This decision was made in a meeting on June 12 to alleviate students’ concerns. The NTA clarified that the re-examination is scheduled for June 23 and will be for 1563 students who had received grace marks. The case was heard by a bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta.

Re-exam for grace marks, counseling delayed

NEET Re-Exam Drama: The central government informed the court that meetings were held on June 10, 11, and 12. During these meetings, the committee recommended canceling the marks of 1563 candidates, and the exam will be reconducted only for these affected students. Following this, the Supreme Court informed the petitioner that the NTA has agreed to their request by removing the grace marks. The NTA announced that the re-examination for these 1563 candidates will take place on June 23, with results expected before June 30. The Supreme Court emphasized that only the students who received grace marks would be included in this re-examination.

Subsequently, Justice Mehta told the NTA that they could not cancel the results of the 1563 candidates outright and needed to prepare the sections again. Justice Nath then inquired when the NTA would begin the counseling process.

Re-exam for grace marks, counseling proceeds

The NTA stated that the committee decided 1563 candidates would need to retake the NEET exam, and all previously issued scorecards for these candidates would be canceled. Those who do not attend the re-examination will have to take the exam without grace marks. However, both the Supreme Court and the petitioner opposed the NTA’s proposal, stating it contradicted earlier Supreme Court decisions.

The court inquired about the number of centers where the issue occurred, to which the NTA responded that there were six affected centers. The court noted that since the exam took place on May 5 and it was now June 13, no objections had been raised until this point.

The Supreme Court then announced that the re-examination for the 1563 students would occur on June 23, with results released before June 30. The court refused to halt the counseling process. A notice was issued, and a response was requested within two weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for July 8. The NTA mentioned that the third petition, which concerns a paper leak, is not currently before the Supreme Court. The court recorded NTA’s statements and issued a written order.

Grace marks cancelled, re-exam on 23rd

NEET Re-Exam Drama: In its order, the Supreme Court stated that based on the recommendations presented by Kanu Agarwal representing the Union of India, the scorecards of the 1563 affected candidates will be cancelled and withdrawn. The candidates will have their actual marks declared without any grace marks, and a re-examination will be conducted for them. Those who choose not to participate in the re-examination will receive their results based on these actual marks without grace.

Naresh Kaushik, representing the NTA, informed the court that the re-examination details will be announced today, with the exam scheduled for June 23 and results to be declared by June 30. This timeline ensures that the counseling process starting from July 6 remains on track and unaffected.
