Oil marketing companies have announced an immediate reduction in the price of commercial LPG gas cylinders by ₹69.50, effective from June 1. As a result, the cost of a 19kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi is now ₹1,676. This price cut has also been implemented in other major cities across India. In Mumbai, the new price is set at ₹1,629 following a ₹69.50 reduction, while in Chennai, the price is now ₹1,841.50, as reported by news agency ANI.

Commercial LPG price drop

Mumbai will experience a ₹69.50 reduction, bringing the new price to ₹1,629. In Chennai, the price is now ₹1,841.50, while in Kolkata, it is set at ₹1,789.50 after the cut. This adjustment follows a previous announcement on March 1 by oil marketing companies, which saw a reduction of ₹19 for 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders. The successive price cuts reflect a positive trend for businesses dealing with high operating costs amid economic challenges. In April, the prices of 19 kg commercial cylinders and 5 kg FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinders were reduced by ₹30.50 and ₹7.50, respectively.

LPG price adjustment monthly

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) adjust cooking gas prices on the first day of each month. Although the exact reasons for the price reduction have not been disclosed, it is likely influenced by factors such as international oil price fluctuations, changes in taxation policies, and supply-demand dynamics.

The government is also implementing various schemes to encourage the use of LPG cylinders for household cooking. One such initiative is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which offers subsidies to eligible families.

Govt criticized for LPG prices

However, the Opposition frequently criticizes the BJP-led central government for its inability to control fuel prices and the resulting impact on the cost of essential food items and other commodities.
