4000 MORE Villages Get Roads They Never Thought
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), roads will be built to connect 475 villages and settlements in the state. The scheme targets villages with populations exceeding 250. The central government has introduced the fourth phase of PMGSY in the budget. If the government relaxes the population criteria, around four thousand villages with populations below 200 could also receive road connections.
Mountain villages get road access in India
The Union Budget has announced the launch of the fourth phase of PMGSY, aimed at providing all-weather connectivity to 25,000 rural areas nationwide. As part of this initiative, 475 villages in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand with populations exceeding 250 will be connected by road. The central government will allocate funds for constructing 1,844 kilometers of road to serve these villages.
Uttarakhand villages benefit from PMGSY expansion
In the first and second phases of PMGSY, 2,620 roads were approved, with 2,316 of these roads completed. Additionally, 311 bridges were constructed. Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi noted that Uttarakhand will benefit from the expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. This will enhance connectivity in remote villages in mountainous areas, improve transportation for residents, and support economic development.
