YouTube is testing an AI-powered comment sorting feature for its Shorts. This new functionality categorizes comments into topics, enabling users to quickly find useful comments without endless scrolling.

Recently, YouTube has been integrating more AI features, such as video summaries. According to a recent announcement from the YouTube Team, this comment sorting feature aims to enhance understanding and participation in discussions by organizing extensive comment sections on English-language Shorts into manageable themes.

This allows users to easily jump to topics of interest and save time by not having to sift through all the comments.

The feature is currently limited to the mobile version of the YouTube app and is available only to a select group of users or Shorts with a high volume of comments. YouTube notes that while comments are automatically sorted into topics, creators can easily remove or retain any they choose. These topics are generated from published comments and do not include those held for review or containing blocked words.

This new Shorts feature follows positive feedback from a similar AI-powered comment sorting tool for long-form videos. Additionally, YouTube is testing another AI feature called ‘Dream Screen,’ which allows creators to use AI-generated green screen backgrounds for Shorts.
