RRTS corridor launched, Magenta Line extended

289 Stations and Counting! Delhi Metro’s Epic Expansion Delhi Metro’s Rithala-Kundli corridor is set to be launched soon. Chief Minister Atishi announced that the foundation stone for this new metro corridor will be laid on Sunday. The project, which is part of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), will enhance inter-state connectivity, linking Delhi with neighboring states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The Delhi government has contributed ₹1,260 crore to the RRTS initiative, which is being jointly funded by the central and state governments.

Atishi also highlighted the extension of the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park, which will improve accessibility in West Delhi and reduce travel time. The RRTS project will focus on three major corridors: Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Panipat, and Delhi-Meerut.

Since 2014-15, the Delhi Metro network has expanded from 193 km to 393 km, with an additional 250 km under construction. Daily ridership has surged from 24 lakh to over 60 lakh. The government has invested ₹7,278 crore in metro expansion, which includes new lines and coaches, such as the Blue Line extension to Noida and the Green Line to Bahadurgarh.

Additionally, the recent expansion of the Airport Metro Express Line from Dwarka Sector 21 to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 is another milestone. These projects aim to reduce traffic congestion, enhance public transport, and support economic growth in Delhi and neighboring regions. The first segment of the RRTS, connecting Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, will be inaugurated tomorrow.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Atishi announced that the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP-led central government would jointly inaugurate a new metro line and the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) on Sunday.
