1.5 Million Jobs Created
Microsoft is actively recruiting real estate lawyers across India, spanning regions from Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to every state in the Northeast, including Manipur, and extending to Ladakh, Puducherry, and Jammu and Kashmir.
This initiative signals Microsoft’s intention for a significant land acquisition effort to support its global cloud expansion. The company seeks dynamic, experienced commercial and real estate attorneys to handle tasks such as land acquisition, leasing, and facilitating strategic partnerships, as outlined in their job postings covering all of India’s 28 states and 8 Union Territories, including Lakshadweep and Daman and Diu.

Microsoft highlighted in a 2022 blog post that its data-center regions in India have contributed significantly to the economy, generating 1.5 million jobs over five years, with 169,000 new skilled IT positions. The company operates points of presence (PoPs) and availability zones in Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur, Mumbai, and Jamnagar, and plans to establish a new availability zone in Hyderabad in the near future.
This expansion in real estate is driven by Microsoft’s increasing demand for resources to support its investments in compute-intensive Artificial Intelligence projects. These investments include its partnership with OpenAI, Inc., the organization behind ChatGPT, and initiatives to introduce its CoPilot AI assistant across both household and corporate versions of the Windows operating system.
